Studio Diary 2004Day 1 We arrived at studio Watercastle 10AM. The first six hours went by really fast and the drumtracks for the album are already recorded. Let´s see if I have to play some songs again tomorrow. Right now it seems that everybody disappeared. Kimmo´s drinking beer somewhere and Timo,Jappe and Tero headed downtown. Arttu is doing something to the drumtracks. I haven´t got a clue what he´s doing but who cares…I just bang the drums! Recording drums (videoclip, 0,5 MB) ~Henri I'm drinking beer and it tastes pretty guz! Tomorrow we're gonna nail the bass down and so I'll be very, very drunk… Now just sitting here and there watching as the boys try to create some amazing tracks. Arttu is quite a nice guy to work with so at least I'm very pleased about being here recording. ~Kimmo, herr kebab ah gala Testing guitars (videoclip, 0,3 MB) Day 2 We started to record the bass tracks today. Timo is pretty fucked up and keeps saying he hates studio sessions… His bass playing is a delicate form of art. Kimmo is relaxed as ever and takes no worries from anything else but the oncoming vocal recordings… I, for myself, spend my time mainly hanging around and worrying about my guitar tracks. -Tero That pretty much sums it up…..heh. My work is done here. I don´t need you guys. Infact, I hate you all. Kimmo is drinking beer….. ~Henri Bä! ~Jappe Conversation (videoclip, 6,5 MB) Day 3 No more bass! The boys start to record the guitars. Kimmo fed Hezekiel (our pet spider) with a wasp he fried with a lighter. Pull out your winkies, it's guitar time! ~Timo Hezekiel (videoclip, 0,15 MB) Huh…still alive. Timo tried to kill us on our way to ”Alan pizzeria”. He just got his driving lisence you know. Don´t ask me how he got it. The day has turned into evening and some guitar parts are recorded. Still a lot to do of course. ~Henri Recording guitars (videoclip, 0,5 MB) It's frickin' exhausting to record the guitars 'cause there's pretty difficult triplets to play in every goddamn song! Two songs almost ready and tomorrow will be a hard day but hopefully most of the guitarwork will be on track by evening. Must remember to tune properly… ~Kimmo (The king of the road) Recording guitars (videoclip, 0,6 MB) Day 4 More guitars… I feel a bit tired…(hungover). Yesterday we went to see Machine Men after recordings, MM was pretty good I think, I don't remember much about last night. Henri was very impressed by my singing abilities this morning. I sang him a ”wake up” song. He thinks I rock! It's hard work to listen to the guys playing and to make sure that everything goes right. Jarmo went to see the Scorpions in Miljoona rock… Poor guy! Timo is vanished from the face of the earth. He doesn't want to see a bass for a while. I think today I won't be drinking beer. This is my day off… ~Jappe Sure, I just love Jappe´s voice.”Torture” is maybe the best word to describe it. We´re just listening to ”Megalomania”. Kimmo just finished the riff guitars. Hard work to sit here and do nothing. Maybe I should also do some other things on my vacation than sit here talking b”#¤”shit. The guitars sound pretty nice. Rough I would say. ~Henri Guitars and some funny faces (videoclip, 0,3 MB) Day 5 Guitars, guitars… ~Jappe Recording guitars (videoclip, 0,2 MB) I'm back… ~Timo Day 6 All the rhythm guitar tracks are now done. Kimmo did a lot of playing yesterday and he´s having a day off today. I came in this morning to do the clean guitar parts in ”Heart & Home” and ”Dire Waters”. Some snappy finger picking there. Jappe is ready to start with the keyboards and Jarmo has started to record the first vocal parts. -Tero Recording acoustic guitar (videoclip, 0,37 MB) OK. It´s almost six o´clock and a lot of stuff has been recorded. Jarmo sung a couple of songs:”Temptation Wasteland” and ”Megalomania”. Also some parts of ”Dire Waters”. The rest of the group were annoying as hell, laughing and doing nothing useful. Surprise, surprise. Heh Right now Jappe is laying down some keyboards. This is the third song that he is playing today. U could think that he would be the last one to say”shit, I don´t remember how this part should be played”, but now he is stuck in ”Dire Waters”. I of course just laugh my ass off. ~Henri Henri writing, Jarmo singing (videoclip, 0,35 MB) Day 7 Kimmo and Tero are recording lead guitars. It´s only a matter of minutes when their heads are going to explode. Heh…. Finally Hezekiel got something to eat. We threw a dead butterfly to it and boy, was he happy. I guess it will eat us all as it get´s bigger. ~Henri Recording leads (videoclip, 0,5 MB) Fuck! Tituti-tituti-titutitituti-tii! These lead guitar recordings are bullshit. This day has been the least productive day ever. Time of mixing is at hand. A lot of stuff is still to come. I'm drinking a lot of beer. My nerves are wrecked, but so are Kimmo's too. I'm waiting for more synths… ~Jappe Kimmo recording (videoclip, 0,3 MB) Why are the boys so worried…? A little mantra or beer would be in order, please. Hezekiel is getting bigger by the day. The sweet bug juice makes him even stronger! Beware… Lovely guitars… ~Timo FUUCCCKKKK!!!!!!!! FUCKING GUITAR TITUTITUPRÖÖPRÄÄ!!!!! FUCK! ~Jappe This day sucked!! ~Henri Day 8 Wow. Yesterday was a disaster but today started in really nice mood and everything seems to go pretty well. Final guitar solos and leads and then it´s time to sing again. Arttu´s having a lunchbreak now. ~Henri Recording solos (videoclip, 0,25 MB) It´s 3 PM and all guitars are finally recorded. I already hate some of my parts, as usual. -Tero Day 9 Jappe recorded a few songs and now Jarmo is singing ”Stage Of Lies”. Only one song to go and then all the lead vocals are done. Tomorrow is the last day that we´ve planned for the recordings and the last ten days are for the mixing. I think that we won´t be able to record all the remaining stuff tomorrow. Maybe some backing vocals for monday. ~Henri Okay, it's time to record keyboards to ”Luopio”….. ~Jappe frutti dimare,bizza bolognese,tutti frutti. ~ Don't ask Jarmo is singing final lines to Stage of Lies and then Obsession to Prosper. One song to go. Everybody else went home. Arttu, Jarmo and I are still here…Klockan är 17.19… Let see how this one goes…I also have big desicions to make, drunk as a skunk or just a little bit drunk????? ~Jappe Day 10 It's midday and Arttu went to have something to eat. I am all alone here listening what I recorded to Obsession to Prosper. Jarmo is coming here soon to record some backround vocals. Tomorrow we have a little break… and then on monday hopefully we start mixing the songs. Weird!!! so quiet in here, maybe I should talk to myself…. Weird, really weird!!!!#”#¤% Hellouuuuu!!!! Somebody? Nothing. Weird indeed! ~Jappe Day 11 Keyboards are done. Jarmo and Kimmo are a bit late… Jarmo has still some singing to do…And nowhere to be found…Jarmo finished the backing vocals. Nothing to record… ~Timo Recording vocals (videoclip, 0,221 MB) Day 12 The mixing begins. Arttu is working on My Legacy. Piece by piece he is making us sound like a band… ~Timo Listening (videoclip, 0,44 MB) We're getting quite good sounds out of our playing and hopefully the first mixdown of My Legacy will be ready by this evening. At the moment Arttu and Jappe are discussing about keyboard sounds…mii laik tuu kork triniti! ~Kimmo (The Tormentor of pigs!) Day 13 All by myself in the studio listening to ”My Legacy”. One song mixed and nine to go. Maybe I should go home and rent ”Kill Bill vol.2”! That would be nice. ~Henri I hate Kill Bill. ~Timo Go ahead…laugh as much as you like, but everyone know´s that VHS kicks DVD´s ass! Don´t you agree??…..anyone?…..????? OK, maybe not. ~No cable nor PS2 Day 14 Our time is slowly running out. Everything is going pretty much as we planned, some minor problems as usual. Arttu is mixing ”Stage Of Lies” and I just ate my twentieth Pizza this week. Yesterday I fixed my PS2. DVD´s are IN again mate! Tiini wiini string bikini!! ~Henri Day 15 Okay folks! Megalomania is mixed. Arttu have started mixing Reality Bends…. Arttu went to eat. Kimmo is sleeping like a baby on the sofa. I'm alone here again. Maybe I push some buttons on the mixingboard and see what happens or maybe I just push ctrl+alt+del!!!! I think everyboby would like that. ~Jappe Day 16 Reality Bends is mixed and we are heading to Tero's residence to listen to it. Five songs are mixed so far… It's evening and Tero and Henri went home, but Arttu and I are still here. Now we are mixing Dire Waters. I just ate my ziljonth hamburger (Dukes are guut!!!!) so now I have strenght to be here a couple of hours more. ~Jappe Day 17 Dire Waters is finished and Temptation Wasteland is the next one. I just realized that I´ve got ”Across” on this laptop. One of the greatest motocross games ever. Johouh! Jappe´s p laying Wasteland with his ”airdrums”. Looks pretty impressive I would say! It seems that Wasteland is also ready. That was fast! ~Henri Day 18 Here I am again! Now we are mixing our biggest song Obsession to Prosper. This one has a lot of work. I'm here alone with Arttu again, Henri and Jarmo had to go to work, Tero is in a lecture, Timo is sick and I don't know where Kimmo is? ~Jappe Day 19 Mixing! Day 20 Final day! Mixing is done and Arttu is finishing things and we are playing Across. Three weeks of hectic work is over!! ~Jappe |
